Reaching

In violet-blue ink on ruled paper, a reclining figure extends two extravagantly enlarged hands.
The hands dominate because reaching, not having, is the work’s true subject.
One hand opens laterally, rehearsing generosity or surrender. The other rises more directly, its fingers narrowly missing the object above.
Is it being released, caught, worshipped, or kept from falling onto the patient?
